Mid Wales, and our beautiful corner of Ceredigion, offers an incredible array of routes, from gentle coastal paths perfect for families to challenging mountain bike trails that will get your adrenaline pumping.
So, pump up those tyres, grab your helmet, and let’s explore some of the best local cycling opportunities right on our doorstep!

Coastal Cruises & Family Friendly Fun
One of the greatest joys of cycling from Penrhos Park is the easy access to stunning coastal routes. Imagine the fresh sea air, the sound of waves, and breathtaking views around every bend.
Aberaeron to New Quay Coastal Path (part of National Cycle Network Route 82): Just a short hop from Penrhos, you can join this fantastic, relatively flat section of the Wales Coast Path that runs between the picturesque harbour towns of Aberaeron and New Quay. It’s mostly traffic-free or on quiet roads, making it ideal for families and those looking for a leisurely ride.
You’ll find charming harbours, colourful houses, opportunities for ice cream stops, and perhaps even a dolphin sighting in New Quay Bay! The distance is approximately 7 miles one way. You can easily cycle to one town, enjoy lunch, and cycle back.
Llanerchaeron Estate Trails: A National Trust property near Aberaeron, Llanerchaeron offers lovely, easy-going trails around its beautiful historic estate. It’s perfect for a gentle ride with young children, surrounded by nature and history.
Enjoy the Georgian villa, walled gardens, farm animals, and tranquil paths. Great for a picnic!
Mountain Biking Thrills & Forest Adventures
For those who prefer their cycling with a side of mud and thrills, Mid Wales delivers in spades. The nearby forests and hills are home to some fantastic mountain biking experiences.
Bwlch Nant yr Arian Forest Visitor Centre (near Aberystwyth): This renowned trail centre is a must-visit for serious mountain bikers. With purpose-built trails ranging from blue (moderate) to red (difficult) and black (severe), there’s something to challenge every skill level. Plus, the daily red kite feeding is a spectacular bonus!
With the well-maintained singletrack, exhilarating descents, technical climbs, and stunning forest and reservoir views, bike hire is also available here if you don’t bring your own.
Ystwyth Trail: This multi-use trail largely follows the route of the old Great Western Railway line, stretching from Aberystwyth inland towards Tregaron. While sections are road-based, there are also off-road parts that are excellent for hybrid bikes or mountain bikes. It offers a fantastic way to explore the heart of rural Ceredigion.
You can expect riverside cycling, views of the Cambrian Mountains, charming villages, and a glimpse into the area’s rich history. You can join sections of this trail from various points.
Scenic Road Cycling Routes
If you prefer the open road and the challenge of rolling hills, the quiet country lanes around Penrhos Park are a cyclist’s paradise.
Local Loops from Penrhos: Our immediate vicinity offers numerous quiet lanes with varying gradients. Head inland for picturesque rural landscapes and gentle climbs, or stick closer to the coast for flatter, more scenic rides. Pick up a local map from reception, or plan your route using apps like Strava or Komoot, and create your own adventure!
We recommend a loop incorporating the villages of Cross Inn, Bethania, and Llansantffraed which offers charming views and a true taste of Welsh countryside.
Essential Cycling Tips for Your Penrhos Park Holiday:

Always wear a helmet. Be aware of traffic, even on quiet lanes.
Welsh weather can be unpredictable! Check the forecast before you set off and dress appropriately.
Bring plenty of water and snacks, especially for longer rides.
